LU-FIELDS is a intersectional project in sustainability at Lincoln University which researches and develops a website, XR apps, and new sustainable minor. Funded by the NSF:TIP grant to empower users to learn, connect, and organize for climate change sustainability programs, with a laser-point focus on providing universal support to help fight environmental justice for underrepresented communities.

Lincoln University has advanced educational and social justice in the United States for over a century. In alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan, the sustainability initiative seeks to further this engagement by creating a comprehensive process to incorporate sustainability into the University's teaching, operations, outreach, and research that will prepare students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community to be tomorrow's sustainability leaders.
Our planet is changing rapidly and we must prepare our students to understand and cope with changes in climate, food production, water availability and health. Through the implementation of strategic sustainability initiatives, Lincoln University will continue to educate leaders ready to meet the challenges of the future while reducing its carbon footprint and becoming more environmentally sound by conserving resources, both physically and fiscally.
With its newly adopted sustainability plan, Lincoln challenges itself to create a more sustainable and greener campus, greener curriculum, and greener community.
The GSSRP is a hands on research experience aimed at attracting and developing talented students who are interested in pursuing an education in a STEM field. Participants work alongside faculty and staff on cutting-edge research projects in Scientific Visualization, Cancer Biology, Machine Learning, Developmental Biology and Modern Drug Discovery. By the completion of the programs, participants gain valuable technical skills and research experience, learn to work as part of a research team, develop a true appreciation of the scientific research process, and contribute first hand to the acquisition of new scientific knowledge.
Group Summer Scholars Research Program-GSSRP Projects
At Kean University, we've always been at the forefront of academic innovation, and our commitment to the GSSRP program is a testament to this dedication. The GSSRP, a cornerstone of our Research First Initiative, is designed not just to attract the brightest minds in science and engineering but to nurture and retain them. Drawing inspiration from Kean's overarching mission, the GSSRP aligns with the ethos of the SIST, a pioneering institute that is redefining the pedagogy of science and mathematics.
Incorporating my research on Aminoalysis and the innovative use of driving simulators, the GSSRP offers students a deep dive into cutting-edge technology and methodologies. Leveraging platforms like CAVE-VR and the Oculus Quest 2, we provide immersive experiences that push the boundaries of traditional learning.
Recognizing the challenges many students face in transitioning to higher education, I've developed curricula and learning modules that are both engaging and tailored to the unique needs of this demographic. By integrating technology, interactive content, and real-world applications, I've crafted educational experiences that not only prepare students academically but also instill the confidence and skills they need to thrive in a college environment. This holistic approach underscores my commitment to ensuring every student has the foundation and support to excel in their higher education journey.
One of my favorite academic pleasures is when I get the chance to instruct K-12 inspiring computer scientists and advise current undergraduate research students at Lincoln University but especially during the summer as I get more time to focus on projects. My immersive teaching style introduces young minds to the exciting world of computer science and technology while providing them with hands-on learning experiences with the goal of sparking their passion for STEM fields.
LU Computer Science K-12 Summer Camp Instructor and Undergraduate Research Advisor
During my tenure at the camp, I developed and delivered engaging lessons that covered a wide range of topics, including cybersecurity, encryption, email phishing, game design, and computer programming. I tailored my lessons to the specific needs and interests of the students, ensuring that they grasped the concepts and developed the skills necessary to pursue further studies in computer science.
Beyond imparting knowledge, I also emphasized the importance of collaboration and teamwork in the field of computer science. I encouraged students to work together to solve problems and create innovative solutions, fostering a sense of community and fostering their ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Throughout my time at the camp, I observed firsthand the profound impact that technology education can have on young individuals. I witnessed the spark of curiosity ignite in their eyes as they delved into the intricacies of coding and problem-solving. I saw their excitement as they developed their own computer games and realized that they could harness the power of technology to create something meaningful.
My experience at Lincoln University's computer science summer camp has been an invaluable one, fueling my passion for education and reinforcing the importance of STEM education in nurturing future generations of innovators and changemakers. I am grateful for the opportunity to have played a role in inspiring young minds and fostering their interest in the ever-evolving world of technology
